Tracy Doaks is the President and CEO of MCNC, a nonprofit dedicated to providing high-performance internet services, cybersecurity, and technology for communities in North Carolina. MCNC manages nearly 5,000 miles of fiber-optic infrastructure, known as the North Carolina Research and Education Network, which serves over 900 community institutions statewide. Under her leadership, Tracy has enhanced connectivity and technology for education, government, healthcare, public safety, and libraries.
Before joining MCNC in August 2020, Tracy was the state CIO and secretary of the N.C. Department of Information Technology, overseeing IT procurement, cybersecurity, operations, broadband infrastructure, the data analytics center, and strategic IT planning.
Tracy holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from NC State. She received the 2018 Public CIO Award from NC TECH, the 2016 Distinguished Alumnus Award from NCSU's Edward P. Fitts Department, and the Triangle Business Journal’s 2022 Women in Business Award for Nonprofit Leadership. Most recently, she received the NCSU 2024 Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Award.
Tracy serves on the boards of MCNC Endowment, MCNC, The Quilt, Rewriting the Code, North Carolina Telehealth Network Association, the Center for Internet Safety, and NC State University’s Industrial Engineering Advisory Board. She participates in the National Association of Chief Executive Officers, NC Broadband Coalition Steering Committee, NC Digital Equity Collaborative, NCTECH, and The Quilt’s Executive Committee. Additionally, Tracy is a co-PI for two National Science Foundation awards.
