What is the OpTIC Path Rodeo?

On June 2-3, Fiber Connect 2025 will feature its first annual OpTIC Path Rodeo! This exciting event invites fiber technicians to compete in a friendly yet competitive environment, showcasing their skills, knowledge, and expertise in constructing high-quality fiber optic networks. The OpTIC Path Rodeo highlights the dedication, precision, and excellence required to build the broadband infrastructure of the future.


$1,000 Cash Prize and Bragging Rights

Participation in the OpTIC Path Rodeo offers not only an opportunity for recognition but also tangible rewards. The winner of this dynamic two-day event will take home $1000, along with well-earned bragging rights as a top fiber technician. Whether you’re competing or cheering from the sidelines, the Rodeo promises to be a thrilling feature of Fiber Connect 2025.

Who Can Participate?

The OpTIC Path Rodeo is open to network operators, engineers, technicians, and anyone with practical field experience in building, installing, and operating fiber optic networks. If you’re passionate about fiber and ready to test your skills, this event is for you!

Event Activities

Monday, June 2   Tuesday, June 3

Day 1 - Qualifiers

  • Fiber IQ Challenge - Quick Qualifier of Q & A across a multitude of topics including Fiber Basics, Troubleshooting, Safety, Tools and more.
  • Show Your ”Fiber Skills Chops”  - Complete a few hands on exercises that provide a chance to showcase your refined craftsmanship and technique.
 
Day 2 - Rodeo Finals - ** Top 12 Contestants Move On to Day 2**

  • Qualifier - **Top 6 move on to Splicing and Troubleshooting**
  • Splicing: Judged on speed and quality.
  • Troubleshooting (Final Round): Diagnose a series of problems in a live lab through process, speed and accuracy.

The competition draws its inspiration from the Fiber Broadband Association’s OpTIC Path Training Curriculum—a robust and comprehensive program developed to teach the fundamental skills essential for designing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fiber optic networks.
